Åsa is a Swedish born, Central Saint Martins trained fashion designer, currently working as clothing and knitwear designer for a London based clothing company.
She is keen to use the skills and vision developed in her studies and her work to create a meaningful impact. East Africa was a logical place to start, inspired by childhood experiences of the flora, fauna and people of the savannah when travelling to this region with her father, a professor in entomology at Uppsala university. Through later travels in Kenya and Tanzania she came to appreciate the bold colour and use of printed fabrics, very different yet somehow similar to the minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic she grew up with.
Maarten is a Dutch national who studied economics at the London School of Economics. He started his career in financial services in London and Hong Kong, advising companies on their sale and acquisition projects as well as fundraising efforts. Having always been really passionate about nature and wildlife conversation, Maarten subsequently moved to East Africa to work for an operator of safari camps and lodges with a very strong conservation and community development agenda. Here he experienced how best-in-class business practices can be used to achieve social and environmental goals, and upon returning to Europe decide to team up with Åsa to establish their own positive impact business.
